People just don't know how to behave if they've never attended an Assessment Centre before. The most important bit of advice is just relax and smile and let your personality come out. Assessment Centres work because it allows the interviewers to see a lot more about you as a person than just what your facade that they would normally see at an interview.
Some advice if you're doing group interviews. Lead when the opportunity comes your way but don't take over. Involve everyone, get other people's opinions, and almost invite that balance against your opinion. If you're asked to do tasks such as psychometric ability or aptitude tests, make sure you understand all of the information that's required of you. Ask questions again and again to make sure that you fully understand.
Ask questions of the interviewers and the facilitators throughout, and don't be afraid if the facilitator is a bit frosty because quite often that's how they have to be to ensure that every Assessment Centre is fair and valid.
During the assessment centre, really important that you don't belittle anyone or take the Mickey out of anyone. Just be yourself, relax, smile, be positive, have fun, and you'll do really, really well at any Assessment Centre that you attend.
