The government's decision not to grant the UK games industry tax relief is unfortunate but will only be a temporary setback, an expert has claimed.
Michael French, editor in chief of mcv, Develop and CasualGaming.biz, has claimed that it is important that lobbying on this issue continues.
Sales jobs in the sector, software development roles and global publishers will still be created despite the decision, he pointed out.
He said: "Tax breaks would just help further growth the industry it's not that, without it, we will struggle more."
Mr French reasserted his optimism about the sector and said that the UK's "unique flavour" of being both a technical innovator and creative engine will ensure that Britain will still play a key part in determining the global games agenda.
In the March Budget, former chancellor Alistair Darling committed to giving the video game industry a total of £40 million in tax breaks during 2011 and 2012, rising to £50 million the next financial year.
