Tech geniuses up and down the country have been speculating about the new Xbox console for quite some time. However, WindowsITPro blogger Paul Thurrott - dubbed "one of the biggest mouths in tech" by TechRadar.com - has gone some way to dispel or confirm the myths surrounding its launch, for all those who are perhaps interested in spending their hard-earned commission on the new console.
It will be unveiled to the public on May 21st at Microsoft's Redmond campus - the corporate headquarters in Washington. The technology expert said this is likely to be because the firm will want to pitch it against Sony's PlayStation 4, which was launched at a somewhat unimpressive event by Sony earlier this year.
The device will be code-named Durango and is expected to be launched for purchase towards the end of this year.
Thurrott says it will run on a "core version" of Windows 8, meaning that there will be a common apps platform, which he speculates may entice enthusiastic developers.
It will feature Blu-ray capabilities and must be connected to the internet in order to run. He also reported that the firm may be releasing a third generation Xbox 360 console later this year, which will be far less expensive than its siblings.
