How NOT to recruit
In this short video, I'm going to give you some excellent tips on how to NOT recruit the best possible people for your team.
Firstly, recruit on gut feeling. I mean, when they walk into the interview room, if they dress well, if they look great, offer them the job because, ultimately, that's all that's required.
Secondly, don't work on any process at all. On the Aaron Wallis website, there's the recruitment process checklist. Don't bother working on anything like this. Interview a few people and see what happens.
Next, when you start chatting to them, find out a bit about them. If your kids go to the same school as theirs, or you support the same football team or something like that, great. They're suitable for the role, so OFFER THEM THE JOB!
Next, you must never pre-prepare any interview questions at all. Just kind of walk into the interview room with a candidate, have a little chat, see what happens. Don't bother downloading the free Competency Interview Guide and the Competency Interview Template because, obviously, it's of no benefit to you at all.
And then, finally, once you've recognised that you support the same football team, and your kids go to the same school. They look great; they sound fantastic; you've offered them the job, don't do any kind of reference checking or any candidate verification. You certainly don't want to end up with a form like this, the Aaron Wallis offer, that completely verifies the candidate's CV.
Regrettably, on CIPD evidence, around half of recruitment decisions are taken on 'gut feel', and only 11% of employers are fully satisfied with their recruitment decisions after 12 months.
If you would like to recruit effectively with proven tools, please submit the form on the right, and one of our consultants will be in touch.
