
How to Choose a Recruitment Agency for Your Business
With around 39,000 recruitment agencies in the UK to choose from, it can be a daunting task to decide where to start selecting whom to use. Here are our Top Ten Tips to choose a recruitment agency.
- How important is it for you to find the right candidate for your role? So therefore, should you choose a generalist recruitment agency or a specific recruitment agency like Aaron Wallis, a sales-specific recruitment agency?
- How Did You Discover Them? When you're looking for the right recruiter, you're going to be searching around yourself, whether that's on Google, YouTube, Facebook, whatever. How you find them is very likely how the target candidate is going to find them. So if you think your target candidate will be using Google to search, you're probably going to find your ideal recruiter also high up in the Google search rankings. If you feel your target candidate will be using a generalist website, search for the kind of role, you're looking to recruit for on the generalist website and see what agencies come up top of their list.
- Where is the company located? If you're looking for an internal based person, you might want to choose a recruiter that's in that local area.
- What's the process that they follow? Most recruiters will detail the methodology that they work towards. Most of these are approved by the large recruitment regulatory bodies in the UK, APSCo, REC, and the IOR. Do they follow those processes? Do they have their badge for compliance? Do they have their badge for performing to best practices?
- What are the Costs? A good recruiter has business terms and costs available on their website. So have a look for a comparison. It may not necessarily be the cheapest recruiter that's the right recruit for you. Have a look at the service level that's included within that fee and look at the terms for things like payment terms and the rebate if the candidate doesn't work out.
- How Flexible are They? When researching, you may have to work to specific diversity statistics. For instance, how flexible is the recruiter to change their process to work with your processes in your business?
- What's the Background of the Recruiter? In terms of the recruiter you'll be dealing with, look at the About Us page or the Meet The Team type pages. Who's the recruiter that's going to be recruiting for you? What's their background? What are their qualifications? Do they have the niche skills required to source the right people for your business?
- What's their Story? Ultimately after you've done initial web-based research, give them a call. Have a look at their Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter profiles. Are they talking about your industry, your business? A term you've picked the phone up to them the 'proof is in the pudding'. Do you relate to them? Do they understand your business? Can they provide a proven history of recruiting for companies like yours? And do they have access to the talent that you require?
