Good time to be in marketing, says APSCo

A report compiled for the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo) has revealed that jobs in the marketing and media sectors are continuing to grow, rendering the industries a good place for jobseekers to start looking for work.

The findings suggested that perhaps there is a shortage of appropriate candidates with the necessary skills for the sector as, despite the number of permanent places declining by almost a fifth over the first quarter of the year, vacancies grew by one per cent.

While the temporary jobs market has seen an increase in job openings and placements of four and eight per cent respectively, the data suggests that competition for permanent jobs still thrives and - more importantly - that there are still positions for the taking.

John Nurthen, executive director of international development for Staffing Industry Analysts - which compiled the data for APSCo - commented on the skills shortage for the marketing and media sectors. He claimed that it may be due to "the increasing importance of new delivery channels and the need for marketing professionals to command new skills to supplement traditional marketing disciplines".
