Financial services 'responsible for 53% of landline cold calls'

A survey by Which? has shown that financial services and products are currently responsible for 53 per cent of all cold calls to landlines. In second place trailed accident claims companies, which made 33 per cent of these types of calls.

However, it would appear that many people do not want to receive them, with a considerable seven in ten people saying they have received what they would describe as 'nuisance' calls in the last three months alone. As Richard Lloyd, executive director at Which?, says: "Unwanted calls and texts are not just a nuisance, they can be intrusive and distressing."

It would appear that one of the reasons people get annoyed by such calls is that they do not know why or how the company ringing them has got hold of their information. For this reason, the product and service reviewing company is calling on the authorities to regulate the telesales and marketing industry more tightly in terms of data protection and sharing.
