if you feel this is not applicable to you and do not wish to complete them.

what types of evidence to collect, these can be any of the following – observation,
discussion, witness statement’s and product evidence.

Do I have to do any classroom training? No this is about confirming that you are
competent in your occupational field and identifying any development or progression
needed from your workplace.
How does it work? An Assessor will visit you ideally on a fortnightly basis and
plan with you how to complete your qualification. You will have 1:2:1 support and
your Assessor will review your progress at the end of each visit. At the end of every
visit there will be a coaching session between the Assessor and candidate.
Do I have to spend time off the ‘shop floor’? Yes, initially you will have to do
the sign up paperwork and may need to sit down with your assessor for an hour, but
your Assessor will arrange this so minimum disruption is made to your working day.
How long will you be with me on a visit? A typical visit lasts about 2hrs but this
could be the Assessor observing in the background and summarising what you have achieved.
The aim will always be minimal disruption to your working day.
How many visits will it take to finish? This depends on what qualification you are
doing and can be from 6 to 24 visits. Please ask for the specific qualification you
are thinking of doing.
Can you fail an NVQ? No, you cannot fail, this is designed to show your competence
and your Assessor will support you until this is achieved.
How frequently will you visit me? Your Assessor will try and plan fortnightly visits,
but we will fit these visits around you and your Manager’s convenience.
Do I have to write anything? A large amount of qualifications can be achieved without
written statements from you, but some qualifications will need a written statement,
it will depend on which qualification you are intending to do.
Will you be giving me home work? You may be set things to collect for the next visit
and this should be minimal and also will be discussed at your visit. We will make
sure you know exactly what you need to collect from work e.g. minutes of meetings
or statements from your Manager.
Does it cost me anything? No, your NVQ is government funded and you will not have
to pay anything as long as you meet the criteria for full funding.
Who will see my work? Your portfolio is private to and as we are a government funded
scheme we have to adhere to data protection and will not give out your information
to a third party.
Do I have to give my details? You will have to give us your address and National
Insurance Number so we can claim funding for your qualification, but this remains
confidential and is not given to anyone else.
When do I get my certificate? Once your Assessor has submitted your portfolio and
the internal verifier has passed it, we will claim your certificate and this should
be with you within 6 weeks of completion.
What if I run out of time to complete it? Your Assessor will estimate how long it
will take you to complete your NVQ. This will only affect the training provider and
will not affect you getting your qualification. This is just a target for you to
work towards.
